Just before Christmas, the Defense Department issued its annual report on Chinese Military Power. This edition had a very ominous theme: The build-up of China’s People’s Liberation Army is unmatched by any other since Nazi Germany’s in the 1930s.

In fact, that conclusion significantly understates the problem. For example, the Chinese Communists’ investment in a military industrial base that has made their defense build-up possible not only is vastly larger than ours – to cite but one example, China’s shipbuilding capacity is 200 times larger than America’s. It also greatly surpasses the Nazis’ at the peak of their power.

The distinct possibility that Chinese dictator Xi Jinping has amassed such capabilities and intends, like Hitler, to use them against not just others, but us, demands a critical examination of the state of our own armed forces.

Unfortunately, for most of the past sixteen years, our military has been: stressed with assorted combat operations; deprived of the necessary modernization of its equipment; and subjected to cultural Marxist subversion. The latter has taken the form of Critical Race Theory indoctrination, “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” policies and purges and promotions based, not on merit, but on racial, sexual and other “identities.”

Fortunately, President Trump was reelected on a platform that recognizes the threat we face from the Chinese Communist Party and other quarters and commits to restore our military. He has nominated a decorated combat veteran named Pete Hegseth to lead those efforts as Secretary of Defense. He has also pledged to rid the military of so-called “Woke” officers.

In coming days, the U.S. Senate will consider Mr. Hegseth’s nomination and the Trump plan for practicing once again “peace through strength.” The Save America’s Military Coalition is hosting its Senate Video Telethon 2.0 from 2-3:15 p.m. ET, Thursday, January 2, to urge Senators to confirm Pete Hegseth as our next Defense Secretary and to give him the tools to “Make our Military Great Again.”
